  • Harp and Bowl – next meeting 2nd March

Last night at the Harp and Bowl, (hosted by Every Nation in Temple Bar) was fantastic! It was the most encouraging church event I have been at in a long time. Others who were there said very similar things.

A number of people said that they knew a lot of broken Christians. Quite a few people prayed that Dublins Christians and churches will be encouraged – and declared that this year will be a year of God’s power in Dublin.

Ray Shiels of Every Nation church, together with other pastors, prayed for me and for the NightChurch. In over 25 years in Dublin I had not experienced such a degree of unity among the people and pastors from a wide range of churches as there was in Every Nation last night.

The next Harp and Bowl will be hosted by Trinity Church, and held in the Metropolitan church on St Stephen’s Green.

I am getting a very uneasy feeling in my spirit about the convergence church movement. I do not think that the majority of trinity church members understand exactly what the convergence church movement is about which to me seems to be about ecumenism couched in romantic notions of rediscovering the form that the early church took. The holy spirit will teach us how to pray and worship if we seek him. There is no such thing as a church calender as paul said ” special feasts and times we know nothing about. Feasts such as lent and christmas and easter and days such as good friday and easter sunday and ascension tuesday mean nothing to God and are merely empty vacous religious terms that are full of nonsense. I have deep reservations about this convergence movement.

  • Le Chéile Advent/Hanukka Eucharist and 5th Birthday!

hanukka.jpgDear friends, it’s hard to believe that Le Chéile is five years going in December! To mark this special occassion, there will be a very special Le Chéile Advent/Hanukka (Festival of Lights) Eucharist on Saturday, December 16th, 8pm, in Kennedy’s.

Come and join with us as we celebrate Advent together. Come, “let us go up to the mountain of the Lord”. This will be the high-light of the year (pun intended!).

Bring candles with you – we are going to have a candle lighting ceremony as part of the Eucharist.

For the November Le Chéile event (November 25th) we will be joining with Grace Maclean and Honora Meade for a fund raising event in Grace’s house.

Grace and Honora spent 2 weeks during the summer working as volunteers with Samaritans Purse in a small village (Accordas) in Mozambique, building mudhuts for the villagers and bringing 27 orphaned children on a summer camp.

Their fundraiser party aims to raise funds to help alleviate the extreme poverty in that village. The money raised will be used to buy water filters (a water filter costs approx. €60 and will provide clean water for 1 family for a lifetime) and to buy goats (one goat costs approx. €45 and will provide 3-5 litres of milk per day for a family).

Grace & Honora will give a small video presentation on the work they were involved in.

Please bring your own drink. If you can bring some food, great, please give Grace a ring for what to bring. Phone No: 01-610 6345 / 087-7675 460.

Directions to Grace Maclean’s house at 19 Castle Dawson, Maynooth:

When you take the Maynooth exit off the M4 (heading towards the West) and cross back over the motorway, after about two hundred yards up towards Maynooth village you will come to an Esso garage on right.

Take the left turn opposite garage into Straffan Wood housing estate (which will be signed at turn). Go to top of road and turn right at T junction. Take first turn left and go to end of road (past Spar shops) and turn left at T junction. Take the 2nd right turn (first turn is into Woodlands estate) into Castle Dawson estate.
Take 2nd turn left and Grace’s house is No. 19, halfway down on left.

Le Chéile Music evening 1904 (Cork)

We have recently discovered evidence of a Le Chéile Music Evening in 1904 (Cork). We believe that Barry Gilbert’s grandmother is one of the girls in the photograph. The piper could be Tomás’ great uncle Dermot O’Sullivan. DNA samples will be collected this evening…

REMINDER!!! This evening is the Le Chéile/Barry Gilbert music evening to raise funds for Romanian orphans. We will start at 8pm, venue is Kennedy’s Rathfarnham.

    Let’s keep the tradition going!
